Also joining the team is Brisbane Musical Director Dominic Woodhead, hot off his success from the hit season of Carrie – The Musical at the Brisbane Powerhouse.
Edges tells the story of a reunion of classmates who explore the the ups and downs of falling in love, becoming friends and celebrating what they were and what they have become. Edges is the first piece written by American duo Pasek and Paul. They are the youngest composers to win the highly prestigious Jonathan Larson Award. Now responsible for hit songs from the TV show SMASH, songs for the upcoming Dreamworks film Trolls, they have written other internationally successful musicals Dogfight and James and The Giant Peach.
The cast will showcase South East Queensland’s up and coming talent. Four of the cast and MD Woodhead are graduates of Australia’s only Bachelor of Musical Theatre degree at Griffith University.
CAST: Alex Woodward (Spring Awakening STC – Artistic Director Cate Blanchett, Dogfight, Carrie), Luke Hodgson (Miss Saigon, Elegies), Danika Saal (Wicked, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Real Women), Pia Frangiosa (Mary Poppins, Carrie) and Stephanie Long (Mary Poppins, Spring Awakening).
Ian Good, while here in Brisbane directing The Secret Garden for Griffith’s Queensland Conservatorium Musical Theatre course says “While I’m working with new and exciting talent at Griffith, it is an added bonus to work with ex students and long standing professional Australian artists on Edges.”
Having worked together earlier this year on Wax Lyrical’s production of Carrie, Alex couldn’t look past bringing Dominic Woodhead on board as Musical Director. He said “Dominic is already establishing a reputation as one of Brisbane’s finest pianists and Musical Directors, and we all can’t wait to see what he does with this incredible score and these fantastic performers”.
“The opportunity to perform in a venue like The Metro goes hand-in-hand with our ongoing policy of building and adding to the Brisbane performance scene”.
