Producers of the musical SIDE SHOW at Hayes Theatre Co are putting their money where their mouth is and making it easier for real-life twins to see the show that tells the story of famous conjoined-twin vaudeville performers Daisy and Violet Hilton.

Earlier this month, Melbournian Rachel Gray tweeted that her identical twin sister Laura was unable to afford a trip to Sydney with her to see the Australian premiere of SIDE SHOW. It turns out the twins have loved the musical ever since they discovered it was about two twin sisters with a bond as strong as their own. Although Rachel and Laura aren’t literally joined at the hip, both sets of twins share a love that only twins can know.

Rachel and Laura share a song from the show (‘I Will Never Leave You’) and desperately wanted to see it performed live onstage. Just like any good Broadway musical storyline, the twins got a happy ending of their own; after seeing Rachel’s tweet, the producers of SIDE SHOW reached out to offer Laura a free ticket to help make her wish to see the show with her twin a reality.

The production has now introduced special offers for ALL twins, with the following offers active immediately:

Book tickets for you and your identical twin to see SIDE SHOW together and get 2 for 1 tickets*!

You and your twin aren’t identical? Not a worry! Book to see the show together and get $10 off each ticket*.

Not a twin? Jump onto one of SIDE SHOW’s social media channels and tag your ‘metaphorical’ twin with proof of you #twinning (a picture or short story) and you could win a double pass to a preview performance of SIDE SHOW.

*To take advantage of any of the twins offers, tickets must be purchased in the same transaction and be for the same performance. ID must be shown at the box office when collecting tickets to show matching birth dates. Purchases can be made by calling the box office and quoting this offer. To be eligible for the #twinning competition, entrants must tag the official Side Show accounts on Facebook (SIDE SHOW The Musical Australia), Twitter (@side_show_au) or Instagram (@side_show_au).

Producers have also said they would of course accommodate any pair of conjoined twins who wished to attend the production, for free. However, there are only known to be approximately 10-12 pairs of non-separated conjoined twins in the world.

SIDE SHOW is a stunning tale of sisterhood from the composer of Dreamgirls based on the remarkable real-life story of conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton and their transition from ‘circus freaks’ to megastars. In the footsteps of Frozen and Wicked, the musical explores a very special connection between two sisters, their desire for acceptance, their search for true love and their desperate yearning for freedom.

In real life, the spectacularly talented and charming Daisy and Violet rose to fame from the grim world of the circus freak show and an abusive upbringing, becoming the highest-paid stars of vaudeville in the 1930s. They went on to appear in the controversial 1932 film Freaks that was banned for 30 years. The film has since become a cult classic being referenced many times in contemporary pop culture, including on South Park, The Wolf of Wall Street, Orange is the New Black and most recently in American Horror Story: Freak Show.
